Echo de Château Lynch-Bages is the second wine of the prestigious Fifth Growth, Château Lynch-Bages. The second wine of an estate can often be overlooked, but they frequently represent excellent value for money and this 2020 Echo is a prime case in point. The grapes come from vines growing on the same prestigious Pauillac soils and are vinified in the same brand-new winery as the Château’s top wine. This vintage’s Echo de Château Lynch-Bages was very well received by critics and frequently outscored the top, more expensive wines from neighbouring estates.
Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most iconic estates in Bordeaux, with a winemaking history dating back to the 17th century. The estate is named after Thomas Lynch, whose father emigrated from Galway in 1691. Thomas Lynch inherited the estate from his father-in-law and expanded the estate to become one of the most prominent in Pauillac. Château Lynch-Bages was recognised as a prestigious Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Since the mid-19th century, the influential Cazes family have owned the estate, which is draped across 90ha of some of the best land in Pauillac.
Potential Drinking Window 2025-2040
Intense graphite and violet character with lead pencil. It’s full and firm with chewy and balanced tannins. Iodine coming through. So intense. Super second wine. Like the grand vin of Lynch from the 1980s. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot.
